How SkinRevu collects, uses, and protects your information
SkinRevu ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit skinrevu.co, how we use it, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
The short version. No account is needed to read SkinRevu. The site counts visits with its own code and keeps no record of who you are. It asks for your e-mail address only when you sign up for the newsletter, take the skin type quiz or send a message, and uses it only for that. Advertising is by Google AdSense.
1. Who We Are
SkinRevu is a personal K-beauty and J-beauty review site based in the United Kingdom. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us.
2. What the Site Records When You Visit
- Page views are counted by the site's own code on its own server: the page, the site that linked to it, the browser, operating system and kind of device, the language, and the country. No cookie and no identifier.
- Country is worked out on the server from your network address, using the "IP to Country Lite" database by DB-IP (IP Geolocation by DB-IP). Only the two-letter country is kept; the address is not stored with it, and it is not sent to anyone.
- Views of reviews, searches, skin type quiz results and the skin type you pick in the site's "what is your skin type?" prompt are each stored with a daily code made from your network address and browser. The code changes every day and is not stored with the address. A finished quiz records the skin type and its concerns, never your answers or e-mail.
- Views of articles use a random code kept in a cookie for two years, so that a refresh is not counted twice.
- Clicks on shop links record which product and shop, and the page you came from.
- Star ratings and "was this helpful" votes keep your network address for one day, to stop the same vote being counted twice. After that it is deleted.
- To stop abuse, contact, sign-up, quiz, rating and search requests are counted per network address for at most two days. The address itself is never kept, only a code made from it.
- Our web host, IONOS, may keep technical server logs (such as the network address and the page requested) for a short time, for security. SkinRevu does not use them for its statistics.
3. What You Choose to Give Us
- Newsletter sign-up: your e-mail address goes to MailerLite, which first e-mails you a link to confirm. You get the newsletter only once you click it. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link.
- Skin type quiz: if you ask for your results by e-mail, your address and skin type go to MailerLite, and the results are e-mailed to you. If you are not already on the newsletter, MailerLite also e-mails you a link to confirm it; you get the newsletter only if you click it. A log of the address, skin type and the products suggested is kept on the server, outside the website, for troubleshooting, for 12 months.
- Your skin profile is saved only if you press "Save my skin profile" in the results e-mail and then confirm. It keeps your e-mail address, skin type, concerns, budget and routine choices, country and the date. Ask and it is deleted.
- Contact form: your name, e-mail address and message are e-mailed to SkinRevu, with your network address, and kept for up to 12 months. You get a short acknowledgement that repeats nothing you wrote.
- Members (Patreon): signing in with Patreon gives SkinRevu your Patreon name, e-mail address and picture, and your Patreon memberships so the site can see whether you support SkinRevu. It is held only for the visit (a session cookie), not stored.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
4. What Stays on Your Device
- In your browser's storage: your quiz result, so a returning visit can show it without the questions; your skin type if you pick one in the site's prompt; whether you have signed up; and that you have closed a pop-up. Clearing the site's data removes them.
- Cookies: an article view code (two years), a "rated this product" marker (one year), a "signed up" marker (one year), a session cookie for members, and Google AdSense's cookies (section 5). You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings.
5. Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on this site. Google AdSense uses cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this site and other sites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.

6. Affiliate Links
Some links on SkinRevu are affiliate links: they tell the shop that SkinRevu sent you. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This helps us keep the site running. We only recommend products we have personally tested. For full details, see our Affiliate Disclosure.

8. Your Rights Under UK GDPR
If you are based in the UK or EEA, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Right to erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Right to restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data
- Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Right to data portability — receive your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us. We will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection.
9. How Long Things Are Kept
Newsletter addresses until you unsubscribe; skin profiles until you ask for them to be deleted; contact messages and the quiz log up to 12 months; network addresses with ratings and votes one day; the abuse counters two days; page and view counts for the site's statistics, with no identifier.
10. Children's Privacy
SkinRevu is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
